Default 98 civic hatch, getting ls longblock, need some help

Hello guys,

well im from maryland and i have a 98 civic hatch, i just bought a b18b long block and i was wondering a few things:

1. do i need to buy news axles?
2. what about alternator, could i use my old one? or will i need a new one?
3. will i need to buy an alternator mount for it?
4. as far as AC, i think i need del sol mount, correct me if im wrong.
5. and for tranny, its hard to find one....whats a good place to get a hydro tranny?
6. will the b18b be plug and play once i swap it or will i need to get the b18b harness and slice some wires or something?
7. what shift linkage will i need?
8. either way im going turbo, so should i go with the vtec head or just build my b18b head? and would you guys think the b18b tranny would match for turbo?
9. I currently have the longblock only with the distributor, so when i get a distributor, will i need to use a timing light again? i know it only goes in 1 way but just want to make sure...

i know i will need to get the engine running:
tranny
ecu
del sol ac bracket
engine mounts
shift linkage

if i missed anything please help me list what else i need.

I apologize for having so many questions and i would like to thanks in advance...

1. yes.

2. you have to get an alternator FROM/FOR a B series motor.

3. Your block might have it already on it, unless you already have it and it is just the bare block and head...no dizzy blah blah.

4

5.You know you need a b series tranny right? Most newer civics have hydro trannys

6. You need the correct harness, ECU, and tranny. (for your b18)

7.you got me there....search Probably one from an Si? maybe?!?! someone will flame me and give you the right info. So, please, correct me if wrong.

8. Just build up your LS head, those things work great with boost. (I dont understand the last part of this question)

9. It sounds like you need a Helms.

Man, your gonna need the Longblock, Tranny, ECU, wiring harness, linkage, various intake and exaust gaskets, motor mounts, exaust manifold from a b series, intake manifold for a b series with TB, new axels, vacuume hoses, correct injectors, fuel rail,

You should have really tried the SEARCH button.

yes, i already searched, but some of it didnt answered my question thats why i posted, and as for does the ls tranny match the turbo i meant would it be better for b18b tranny or b16a tranny cuz i know the b16a has shorter gears....so its jus out of curiosity...

and as for axles...so i will need some b18b axles? and will it fit my hub assembly?

thanks alot murmur for helping

and by the way i alrdy have the intake manifold exhaust manifold fuel rail and injectors

I'm pretty much in the same boat. I THOUGHT I read that you have to change the spindles out to use the B18 axels. The DX uses a small spindle to mount the small front brakes. The EX uses the big spindle as does a Teg.

I ended up picking up a nearly complete teg suspension so I can swap the spindles, and add rear disks to my EK.

So, the splines and diameter of the axel are the same for the DX and EX/Teg? That's good to know.

You may also be able to use the 99-00 Si a/c mount, and I believe also the a/c compressor from 99-00 Si or B16 del Sol.

Axles will fit fine, also remember there are 3 of them...left, right, and midshaft.

Did the intake manifold, injectors, and throttle body come with the longblock? Depending on the year of the engine and ECU your wiring will be minimal. You will need to keep your stock wiring harness and modify it to work, there aren't any B-series harnesses for the 96-98 Civics.

Any B-series shift linkage will work, but you can buy 99-00 Si linkages brand new for $75 at http://www.slhondaparts.com

If you're going turbo just get an LS tranny and leave the head on too, it will be plenty fast and easier to tune. Save money on the VTEC swap and put it into the turbo kit.

PS - the code for B18B stuff is P75

You can also use the a/c bracket from the crv. its cheaper than the delsol a/c bracket and you can still use your existing a/c compressor. As far as wiring harness, you can use your stock harness but you will have to modify the iacv wiring......search in the archieves under the name "katman" and you'll find answers to your re-wiring needs.

I put a B16 into a 98 hatch, the D16 a/c compressor did not fit the a/c bracket on the B16 and even if it had, the pulley would not line up properly.

was it the p30 bracket (del sol dohc vtec)? if it wasn't, thats why your d16 compressor did not fit. I tried both the p30 bracket and the bracket off of the crv and they both worked fine with each pulley, its just i didn't want to spend 100 something bucks on the del sol vtec a/c bracket when i was able to pick up the crv bracket used at the junk yard for 40 bucks with the pulley.

No, it was stock 99-00 SI bracket...

No you cannot use any Integra harness in a OBD2 Civic, the 96-00 Civics have a 1-piece harness going through the firewall to the ecu, 94-00 Tegs and 92-95 Civics have a 2-piece harness, one part on the engine and the other half coming out from the dash/ecu and they meet at the shock tower.

With a 94 LS engine & ecu here's what you need to do for wiring:
1) Get the OBD2a - OBD1 converter
2) If you do have the B18B harness, replace the injector plugs on your stock harness with the ones from that one.
3) Sell or trade your OBD1 distributor for an OBD2 version which will plug right into your stock engine harness.
4) Perform the modification to your stock harness for 2-wire IACV as seen here:
http://www.we-todd-did-racing....DE%3D

NOTE: I discovered that the Boomslang conversion harness has a jumper from A14 to A12 so if you use theirs you don't have to do the repinning at the ecu just change the plug on the engine side...

5) You may have to lengthen a couple wires so it all reaches but otherwise you're alright. None of the mods above are very difficult.
