Default EXTRUDE HONE

There has been talk before of extrude honing the intake manifold before, but now I am curious if anyone here has ever extrude honed their cylinder head?? If not, what do you guys think? Basically it doesn't open things up too much, it just polishes the ports to a very smooth finish. Please anyone post your opinions.

NO WAY>>> the head is a delicate piece, you cant just go smoothing it out with extrude hone. good head work is an art form.

Anyone else..... I personally think it would make some power. It doesn't change the geometry of the head. It smooths the ports to increase velocity. I don't know a lot about this stuff, but if you think I am totally wrong will you guys please post your reasoning.

One problem that I have right now is that I have an extrude honed itr intake manifold, but the ports on the manifold are 1mm larger than the head ports. Is that a major problem, or do I really need to get that head port opened slightly.

According to AKA - SGT:
Extrude Hone isn't worth the money!

Alright, but what do you guys think about the intake ports being 1mm larger than the head ports???

larger ports = lower velocity but they can ultimately flow a little more... tuning/porting a NA head isn't as easy as just opening everything up 1mm. It really is an art form and I, for one, sure as hell wouldn't risk my head with Extrude Hone

you want the ports on the manifold to be smaller than the ports on the head
to helps antireversion.

[edit: had it backwards]

do the manifold stay away from the head and send the head out to someone like portflow

I already have the manifold though. It would be very expensive if I had to pay for everything, but the guy who did it went with a different manifold, and gave me a very good deal on it. So I figured that I would put it on in hopes for a few hp.

Hey Stephen,

You have it back wards unless your thinking exhaust manifold. Smaller ports on the intake manifold, larger ports on the head will help reduce revision. The step back into the smaller intake helps prevent reverse flow.

Have you looked into the costs of extrude hone? Its cost is about the same or more than a good port/polish job. But if your all set for extrude hone, let us all know the results.

i gained about 3-4hp and 3 ft/lbs across the board by installing an Extrude ITR manifold. smoothed out the line a lot..

not sure if it would be worth it on a somewhat stock motor, but mine has Toda Spec A cams and CTR pistons.

motor is not stock. has type 3 cams. Full header exhaust. It will have 11.5:1 compression, and is reving to 9500 rpms. Topspeed-I'm assuming that your intake ports were smaller than the head ports??

You are right, for some reason my brain was thinking it correctly but my
hands wrote it backwards.

yep that sounds about right. omniman man (skunk2) has bene telling me for a while extrudeHone ITR manifold is good for 3-4 whp across. it's of the little tricks that helps his world challenge spec b16a's to over 200 whp.

3-4 whp doesn't sound like a lot but after a while that's one of the last places you can get power from... cost to EH an intake manifold is what, like $350? doens't sound cheap but hp/$ is actually not bad for NA.

Default Lisa Kubo Signature Series

Extrude Hone is selling what they call "Lisa Kubo Signature Series" intake manifold. Skunk II manifold, abrasive flowed and powder coated orange. Don't know the asking price but saw plenty of them at SEMA.
