Default Searched Hard-core: SC61 Worries on stock LS

Hey guys-- i'm currently building a new setup for my integra. I used to run a t3/04e on a maxrev w/ decent results-- (110traps @9psi). I'm now building a 2.0l ls/vtec setup, but miss boost very badly. I have the turbo setup almost complete, sst w/ sc61. I want to slap the sc61 on my stock ls motor, but i'm worried that it will be extremely laggy. What opinions do you have in regards w/ the sc61 on a stock motor-- i'm probably going to street it at 10psi, and 14psi on race gas. But obviously once my motor gets done I will be running 18+psi . I was wondering how laggy this turbo would be if I upgraded to the "S" housing. How much of a difference is sc61 w/ the S housing compared to the t3/04e 57trim? Thanks a bunch guys!

the " S" housing will not effect spool time, the exhaust side effects spool time from what i was told,

Expect 14 pounds of boost at 5000-5300.

I was about to say why the hell such a big turbo on a stock LS, but I see you're waiting on a built motor. Expect it to be kind of laggy. I would just wait until you have everything ready.

Cant.....resist...the need....to...booooost. Seriously speaking tho, I see no need to wait. Its not going to hinder my build time, its just something to help see a, "before and after" situation-- and full-fill my need to boost temporarily.

just some examples of spoolup times with sc61 i've seen:

my d16:
p&p head, 1.7L, cam, 9.5:1 cr, 2.5" downpipe, 3" exhaust: 14psi @ ~5000-5300rpm

my friend's gsr:
stock head, skunk2 im, 9:1 stock bore je's, darton sleeves, 2.5" downpipe, 2.3" greddy evolution exhaust... 15psi @ 5000-5300rpm

NOW... the difference is how the power hit... mine was really peaky... it was like NOTHING till 4800rpm then it hit hard @ 5000-5300. His picked up a lot quicker as it built boost. although... this could be due to our boost controller settings.

Here are some real world numbers from a friend's car here. He has a B18b with a completely stock head all the way down to the intake manifold. He hits full boost (16lbs) at about 4700 - 4800 RPM. He has an SC61 with an S compressor cover (.70 A/R) T350 Stage 5 turbine wheel and .63 A/R turbine housing. The other LS owners I know with the SC61E see similar spool.

wow... not bad... making me wish i didn't sell mine then. what size dp is he running?

I will ask him next time I talk to him but I am almost positive it's a 2.5" downpipe with an SFP exhaust manifold. The manifold and downpipe are jet coated.

its not as bad as people say it is ........i have one on my stock LS with a .69 trim so that might make it spool alittle better then the .73trim but imma build it later on. when u run on the street u can barely tell anyways but thats just my personal opinion, and i also have 3in open dp so that might help also ....good luck on ur setup

next time don't think the grass is greener on the other side. the sc61 is more than enought for any one's street car. it's the rest fo the setup that makes or breaks the turbo these days not the turbo. bad tuning, incorrectly set EBC can also contribute to these factors. sorry your regrettign sellign it, but i do hope you and others see not to rush off in the "oh this is cool" on this board crap and see that sometimes you have what you need and the other "cool" this isn't always as good as it sounds.

What RPM are you spooling up at??

I had 10 psi by around 4800. thats with S housing, sst and 3in dp. The powerband isnt that bad at all if you have a tight tranny.

Thats what I was worried about, was the LS tranny i'm still going to be running. Which tranny are you running, and how do u think the powerband will be w/ the LS gearing?

I had a cable ls tranny (A1, 90-91 I belive). Even with the ls tranny it wasn't bad at all, didn't fall out of boost or anything. I think the hydro gearing is longer though.
