Default HOW TO: OIL PRESSURE SWITCH BYPASS OBD I - PAPER CLIP METHOD

this is to bypass the oil pressure switch using a paper clip in an OBD I ECU. find out where A4 and D6 is. (A4 is in first section, second in the bottom slot. D6 is in the last section, third bottom slot)

using a paper clip, untangle it, COVER THE EXPOSED METAL PART OF THE PAPER CLIP WITH ELECTRICAL TAPE, and make it into a wide "U" shape long enough so that you can stick one end all the way down into the A4 hole, and the other into the D6 hole. if you stick it in right and deep enough, this should act like the spliced/soldered wire that everyone talks about. hopefully, this will help those who are lazy to solder/splice wires.

anyone do it like this besides me? let everyone know your experiences. my friend is using this same method, and it got rid of his CEL. now, his VTEC kicks in right when it's supposed to.

I personally would not do it as the vtop is sort of a safety system.

if the cel is throwing a code then it should probably be fixed and not just bypassed, that would be like cutting the sensor wire on your brake fluid resivoir cause it is annoying to have it come on....just add brake fluid.

if the oil pressure is not high enough for the vtec to come on then you have a problem, and it needs to be fixed. this is even more ghetto than the resistor across the AIT sensor plug to try and get more fuel into the engine.

Yes, the oil pressure signal is there for specific precaution reasons. But on those motors that don't have an oil pressure sender on the head (like JDM ITR and some JDM B16 motors), and you want to run something like say a chipped P28 ECU, the ECU will look for the VTEC pressure switch and when it doesn't find it, it'll throw the code and VTEC won't work. This is just a poorman's (really poorman's ) way to bypass this, where as most people just cut-move the VTEC pressure switch wire to the solenoid signal.

EXACTLY . for JDM engines, it only comes with the VTEC solenoid, not the oil pressure switch.. so instead of buying the oil pressure switch, tapping it into the vtec solenoid, id rather just bypass the oil pressure switch by doing this. oh, and by the way, since the paper clip is exposed, i decided to cover the exposed section with electrical tape so it doesnt not short out the ECU ..

his oil pressure is ok. my friend has the jdm motor, so he needs to bypass it cuz he doesnt want to buy another oil pressure switch.

i just don't think it's that difficult to find. Just buy a whole VTEC solenoid/pressure switch from a USDM motor. They're cheap and easy to find. B and D series are identical for the VTEC solenoid and pressure switch so there are a lot of them. Just hope you don't have any low oil pressure, cause that little problem will end up a big expensive one.
