Default Car's acting weird, need help.

For those who don't know I just bought a 90' Integra. It's an awesome car. It was in a rear ending and something's not right. Two odd things are happening and I need some guidence. It's idleing extremely odd, the rpm guage at idle will bounce between 1.5 and 2.5 k rmps. Also the radiator fan won't turn on, if i leave the car in idle after about 20 mins it'll start to overheat. I could use any input, thoughts, links, etc.

Thanks in advance....

check thermostat for the over heating and also.. check the fuse for the radiator. the idleing... uhhmm, it could be anything. check for any leaks in ur vaccum(spelling) lines and stuff.

car was idling at 750 rpms or so when it's warm, it still jumps up and down though when it's warm.

I've been checking out the radiator fan, i jumped the fan to the battery and it turns on. Next I was checking the relay, the relay's not clicking when I apply 12v to the coil side. I used my volt/ohm meter to double check that I was hooking the relay up right. I'm gonna go buy one of these unless someone has one they'd like to sell me. It s aMitsuba relay, part number rc-2201. The puppy is located right by the battery.

As for the idling, I'm probably going to take it to a mechanic to check out. I have two books for the car and the procedures are very drawn out for checking things, too much work it looks like.

thanks guys for your input, if you have that relay please PM me or send me an e-mail djet311@yahoo.com

It seems that if I let the car warm up completely that I don't have the issue with the idle jumping up. Now it's idling too low and even dying on me. It'll be sitting at like 750-1000 rpms and then it'll just drop like it's going to die. I had this problem with my civic but can't remember what it was.

thermostat, fan relay, and if those two fail, and your lossing coolant, check the radiator hose, and if your water pump is leaking.

as for the idle, holy crap batman there are tons of things that could be affecting the idle. might want to search first, but i can cover the basics.

vaccum leaks, could be simple as finding a loose or disconnected hose or the need to spray carb/throttlebody cleaner around the intake manifold (gaskets, vaccum lines etc.) if the car revs up when you spray it over a certain area, check for a crack or disconnection etc. Next up would be to check the IACV , TPS sensor, and the FITV all w/ a voltage meter. and then there's the idle screw itself. Search for further details about those sensors.

your idling problem is your fast idle valve pull your throttlebody off next to your intake manifold disconnect all the cables and hoses. turn it upside down there will ba a flat plate with two screws. take them out under there will be your fast idle valve. before tighteningit clean your whole throttlebody w/ b12 chemtool. under the flat plate will be a fat white screw with the valve in the middle tighten down the screw until it is snug, not too tight. that fixed my prob on my honda my friend who is an L1 mechanic told me to do that and it worked perfect after..but be carefull not to break your gasket. but if you do they are only like 2 bucks. hope this helps you. good luck

^^ Awesome guys. I'm making my list of to do's.

Notes to add about the idle is that if i drive like a pansie then everything is fine. It's when I push the car that things start to get weird. I have an akimoto (sp) intake on there that I just put on. It was in my closet for like 6 months, could it be dirty? Can I clean it with the same stuff I'd clean a K&N? Also the car takes like 10 mins to warm up, but I start driving it cause the radiator fan isn't engaging and i'm affraid it's gonna over heat. When I drive it the heat isn't a problem, only when it's at idle. I think the thermostat might be crap to. thoughts?
