Default How To: JDM Dizzy Swap From USDM

Its really quiet simple. I thought Id share it with all you guys here.

For one the purpose of this is to help eliminate the extra clutter Honda includes in the Engine Bay.

Here is a pic of how to wire the USDM Coil Harness.

Its quiet simple and anyone can do it.

And here is a video to explain the mechanics of how its done.

Video

All done by me and open to the public. Im pretty sure I covered it all in the Pic and Vid.

If you still dont understand dont hesitate to ask.

Yes you can use the USDM rotor. Should fit right on just like you took it off...

As far as wiring goes, you need to bridge 2 of the 3 wires on the plug that goes to the external coil to make it work. You'll understand which ones I mean when you take a look at the wiring diagram.

I had an issue when I did the swap. I managed to blow 4 dizzy's in the space of about 6 months. Never really worked out the problem as I went to an MDI setup.

I'm not sure exactly. It was either the coil or the ignition control module.

The 2 wires on the external coil plug from the engine harness that need to be bridged are yellow/black and yellow. Blue stays unused.

Either wire in a fuse between them, or stick a fuse directly into the plug and tape it off to protect it. I use a 20A fuse in mine.

I used a fuse also.

Did you have any issues with distributors burning out?

Well that is a fail. Does anyone know how to test the Coil on the JDM Dizzy, or where to get one?

Im about to swap out the igniter from Dizzys.

I'm still finishing up this swap, only started the car once...so I wouldn't be able to tell you from experience if you'll burn through coils by doing this.

From what I've seen though, it's not a very common problem.

if the coil is bad on your jdm dizzy you're gonna have to get a new JDM coil or a whole new dizzy.

I'd take that ignition module to a local autozone for testing, it's probably just a bad coil.

I wouldn't recommend mixing distributor components, just buy new so you have a warranty and some peace of mind. 8)
