Transmission slips out of gear?!!!
i have a manual transmission and when i put it in 5th gear it eventually slips out and goes to neutral. it seems to do this when i go up a hill and accelerate. this is very annoying!! any help would be nice!!
you just need a new transmission, how many miles are on it? how often do you beat on it? this happened to a friend's CRX in third gear, because he was always doing drops for races
my old tranny blew out on the freeway with your same problem after 3 months of that happening. it was either a input or pilot bearing.

Check the motor mounts and transmission linkage. Going up a hill in 5th gear will require near maximum engine torque. If the mounts are bad, the associated movement could pull the car out of gear.
yea my tranny was doen da same thing in 5th on da highway...so i swapped out trannys and put a new clutch and **** still doen it..still dont know why
That was the problem.... low on trans fluid. I emptied the existing trans fluid out which was arould 0.5 quart from the transmission and filled 2.5 quarts with honda manual transmission fluid. its now stayin in 5th gear like it use to.... so thanks guys for the solution... and changing the trans fluid was easy too....saved some money by doing it myself than going to the dealer which would have cost me 80$.
by the way... wat might be the issue with just the 5th gear and transmission fluid low ????????
thanks again guys for all your help.... this forum rocks.

Maybe fifth gear sits higher in the tranny than the rest.

If the problem persists after you've inspected the shift linkage for binding and the motor mounts for looseness, then you'll have to replace the 5th-reverse synchro set (hub, sleeve, ring, and spring) and the mainshaft fifth gear. The shift fork and change holder will have to be inspected and replaced as necessary.
Hi,
I recently had an issue which i mentioned above where my tranny was slipping out of 5th gear and someone on the forum told me its low on trans fluid, so i changed the trans fluid and i no longer have this issue. the oil that came out of the tranny was 1/2 quart rather than 2.4 quart which was really low.
But i still see some drops of oil on the ground from my transmission. last time i got the tranny oil changed from tires plus, they took 1 hr to find out the filler and drain plug and mistakenly must have tried to open the #13 bolt in the attached figure:

the oil is leaking from the # 13 plug. i dont see any washer in that plug. what might be the issue ? what do i need to do to fix the leak ?
thanks in advance.

Do i just need a 1/2" wrench to open this bolt ?</TD></TR></TABLE>
That is a sealing bolt, and you only remove that when disassembling the transmission case. There is a snap ring in there that you have to expand to drop the countershaft in order for the outer half of the case to be removed.
I'm not sure if there should be any kind of thread sealant on that bolt or not. Can anyone else comment on that? Maybe it's loose and needs to be tightened.
Also, have you checked to make sure your CV axle seals aren't leaking?

I use gasket seal on that plug, if it's leaking, then seal it up.
12 and 18 are the drain and fill holes. I would stay away from that shop in the future.
