help.. vtec wont kick in
well i got the motor and the ecu from some dude.. i no the motor is legit but im very sceptical about the ecu he gave me... so that could be a reason why vtec wont kick in and i cant redline to 8...

Theres a small little hanging plug next to the ecu... plug a little metal clip into it and run the car to ignition. Count the blinks. Long blink is 10. Short, quick blink is 1.
And the most common obd-1 gsr ecu is a p72, I believe. Look on the side of it and read the middle numbers/letters.

well i took it to a shop and they did everything..
well okay the ecu is okay... they might of done the vtec wiring wront.. but why does the engine cut off at 7.5 when my redline is suppose to be at 8

your redline is actually 8200. VTEC you won't feel in a GSR anyway. it's at 4500. try this - drive in 3rd up to like 60mph, then hang around 4500 rpm, go past it a little and you'll feel it pull harder. that's as far as VTEC hits in a GSR. the B16 is dramatic, the B18C is meh. Your engine cutting off at 7500 rpm is usually the sign of a bad timing belt, or dying ECU.

You're *** backwards on the b16 and the gsr. You can feel/hear a difference in both when VTEC engages. The GSR is more dramatic. If you don't believe me, look at the cam profiles of both engines. The GSR has a higher lift than the b16.
To the OP, If the car is obd2 as well, hook it up to any code reader and try to see whats going on. If you are unable to do this, take it back to the shop that did the install and have them look into it.

You won't feel vtec in a gsr? Are you serious?!?
To the OP: I'm going to go with the comment above...if a shop did the swap they should have no problem fixing any problem they might have made...

that may be true but the scondary butterflies arent actvated yet, not till 6k so vtec doesnt make THAT much more diffrence, untill the butterflies open
