Default b20 pistons in a b16a?

does anyone think it is worth boring ot a b16 bolck to fit b20 pistons?
Im thinkin it would be a higher reving end w/ some descent torque compared
to the frank motor

Hey if you got it sleeved and bored that would be what a 1.8L that could go up to 9K-10K RPM mark? Sounds fun! I don't think it would have as much [low] torque as a true B18(B/C) engine simply because of the way the engine operates, with the higher rod ratio, however in the upper RPM's its breathing abilities would start showing off.

Use a B17 crank

Low end torque would probably be better than a B18B. True, the B18B has the lower rod ratio (which favors generation of low end torque). But the B16A will have higher compression and low RPM optimized cams.

I don't think it would be worth it. Block integrity after boring it out to 84mm would be compromised. I think it would be better to Frank it.

if your gonan go to the trouble to sleeve it, why not spend some money on soem good high comp psitons. itd be a waste with the Z pistons

higher revving? if you're going to build your bottom end, get some forged pistons. especially since you'd have to resleeve the motor to put the 84mm ones in.

get something with higher compression.

9-10K?? Will the honda rods, bearings, and pistons even handle that for very long??

Rado, Lisa and Steph...what dot hey have in common...,They all use Honda bearings....

As for your idea.....It wouldnt make as much torque as a true 1.8n liter. The torque curve lies more in the stroke then the bore. Not that the bore doesnt matter. But the stroke matters much more. Just build an LS motor and smile....Or build a B20 an be very happy

Actually it would be a 1.7L Don't bother with the B20's (compression is too low). If you are going to pay the money to get it sleeved and bored. Bore the SOB to 87mm, and buy some good quality high compression pistons.

Actually,

B16 has a stroke of 77mm.

77mm with 4 pistons at 84mm (b20) = 1.71L
77mm with 4 pistons at 87mm (custom) = 1.83L

That is a lot of money to spend on a B18. Just build a B20. It will cost less.
Speaking of the 9k RPM......cannot happen without good cams......well it could happen you just wouldn't make any power. CTR's only last till about 8600. And those cost a lot.......

the ls b18 the b20 or the gsr's b18or the b17 gsr all make more torque because of that big swingin crank. bore makes hp. stroke makes torpue. but why does a high compression b17 pull a b16si every time . cause its the same thing with a longer stroke... build a ls and wish you had a gsr. i did no smile
