99 lx civic gr2 front rear shock install help
Hey guys,
Long story short, Ive replaced shocks on m3s before so I am familiar with the process, tools and job task at hand. I just want to make sure I have all my eggs in one basket before I start opening things up. I dont want any surprises. I have stock springs and am putting stock springs back on so I will be renting a spring compressor. I have an impact and all required tools. Just need to know the process and what sizes etc needed would help too : ) Lets hear it from the gear heads!

Re: 99 lx civic gr2 front rear shock install help
im bored so.
Front
remove lower shock fork bolt.
loosen shock fork pinch bolt
remove brake line from shock
remove two shock mount bolts in bay, shock drops out
install spring compressor, crank it down and use allen key and box wrench to remove shock piston rod bolt. note order of washers, bushings, and metal sleeves. reinstall.
Rear
remove lower shock to lower control arm bolt
remove LCA to trailing arm bolt
remove two upper shock mount bolts in trunk, shock comes out
rest is same as above
its pretty simple especially if youve done it on other cars. might need PB blaster and possibly replacement bolts if theyre seized.

Re: 99 lx civic gr2 front rear shock install help
Thanks for reply alpha. So for an update...
Uninstall/install front shocks no problem. Ive dont suspension installs before just not on a civic. Thats why I asked for a write up just so I was sure all was good. What got me thinking things may be different is because when you change out shocks on an m3, you have to also change the shock mount as the new shock would be to stiff for the old mount and ware quick as hell. The civic you dont...so I just wanted to prepare myself for any surprises.
Move on to the rear....loosen up top 14mil, what do you know...the lower bolt connecting the for of the shock to the control arm is seized on the bushing itself. Fcukin snap the head trying to get it off (no big deal since it wouldnt budge so it didnt effect the ride at all). Now I have to wait on a new kyb bushing

then get back under and install the rear shocks and finish what I started. Hopefully all goes well and nothing else wants to seize up when I get the assembly off. This time Im gonna sit around for 30minutes and just continously pb blast over and over and over and over and over (sorry for continuation lol) so something like this doesnt happen. ALthough no amount of pb will help if something is seized on.
