Default digital conversion

Does anyone know if it is possible to convert a non-digital bike to digital i.e. speedo/odometer? I'm thinking this would require an ECU and I'm unaware if older model bikes w/out fuel injection even have ECUs. I wouldn't see why they would but I don't know for sure. Any input?

I think all you have to do is earth it, and it gets the pulse from... dunno. heh i dont even know what im talkin about right now, but I remember putting a digital tachometer on my small KSR just by placing one of the lines on the frame.

Theoretically, this could be done, if all the sensors the digital dash reads output the same values as the non-digital ones (or if the digital sensors will fit). On Hondas anyhow, the tach is read from the ECU, and all the others are various sensors which for the most part use the same resistance values etc. The hard part of this sort of conversion is getting the digital dash in the first place - they're not cheap at all. It will be a lot of work and fiddling around though...you'd have the wiring diagrams for yours and the donor bike memorised by the time you got done with it.

I had planned on doing this to one of my bikes as I'd modified it so the OEM instrument panel wouldn't fit, but I found a way to retain the OEM panel and the digital-dash plan went by the wayside.

Look at the IMO motorcycle computers.

I have one on my dual sport (DR350), it works very well.

Be carefull what you use. A mate of mine has an SP1 display and its a right pain to configure.

I was actually going to use the SP1 (RC-51 here) display on my bike. Everything would've worked as all the sensor values are the same, but I am not 100% sure the tach pulses would be correct, as the display expects a v-twin and I was putting it on a V-4.
