Wheel size?
Before you decide on a wheel width, decide what kind and size of tires you're going to mount on it.
For example, if you have a 1992-1995 Honda Civic, the proper size tires for 16" wheels is 205/40-16. Most tires this size are approved for mounting on rims 7.0-8.0 inches wide. The ideal rim width would be 16x7.5. You could use 16x7, but the tires may appear slightly bulging; you could use 16x8, but the tires may appear slightly stretched.

205/50-16. And most 205/50-16 tires are approved for rims that are 5.5-7.5 inches wide, so don't get 16x8. (I would probably get 16x6.5 if it's offered, but 16x7 would be fine too.)

I can help.
Just answer a few questions...
- Only for street use? What about autocross or racetrack?
- Will they often be used in rain?
- Will they be used in snow and frigid cold? Or only in moderate to warm temperatures?
- How much do you care about performance vs value - i.e. do you want the absolute best performance regardless of price or treadlife, or would you be willing to give up a little bit of performance in order to get a lower purchase price and/or longer treadlife?
