i have a 91 civic hatchback with b18 swap and i cannot get traction. i running 16" kobe litrace wheels with nexem tires right this minute, but im looking for either a drag radial or just something to get traction with. does anyone know any good brands of tires to help stop my wheel spin?
Gee, you're using crappy tires, and you can't get the traction you need? What a surprise!
The tire size you need for 16" wheels on your car is either 205/40-16 or 195/45-16. Either size will work.
If this is only for the dragstrip, by all means use drag radials. But don't use them on the street, because they won't last very long (maybe 5K miles).
If you want the most dry traction you can get, and you don't care about wet traction or treadlife, get the Falken Azenis RT-615 in 205/40-16, $84/tire at Vulcan Tire. Outstanding dry traction, but they don't last all that long (10-12K miles is typical) and they're only so-so in rain.
If you want great dry traction, along with great wet traction and better treadlife (25-40K miles), get the Goodyear F1 GS-D3 in 195/45-16. $95/tire at the Tire Rack, less a $40 cash card when you buy a set of four.
If you want to spend less than that, and you don't mind giving up a bit of traction in exchange for the lower price, get the Kumho Ecsta SPT in 205/40-16, $82/tire. They're not as good as the Goodyear, but they're still way better than those crappy off-brand Nexens. But as long as you're buying a set of four, the Goodyear is almost the same price after you figure in the cash card. So I would go for the Goodyear or the Falken.

i have a quick question im looking to get some traction with my 91 ef civic hatchback that has a b18 swap. right now im using some crappy nexem tires that will not get traction. i was told to get a set of falken azenis. im looking at them now they are 205/40/16. i have been told that they are only good for twisty road driving, and not for the drag strip.is this true? im looking for a tire i can use as a daily driver for traction, but a tire that will hook up at the drag strip. can anyone help me with this? i need to find a tire that can handle the drag strip every once and a while, and some abuse daily driving ont he street. can anyone help me?

No. The Azenis RT-615 is as good on the dragstrip as any street tire. Not as good as drag radials, but then drag radials are made specifically for the dragstrip.

The problem with drag radials is that they wear too quickly on the street and they're really not made for cornering. They're great if you're going to use them only on the dragstrip. Otherwise, if you're looking for a tire that will grip on the street and can stand up to occasional dragstrip use, get the Azenis. And if you want one that's almost as good but will last longer on the street, get the Goodyear.
