Replacing Wheel Studs???
I need to replace all the wheel studs on the front driver side wheel of my 94 h/b and I was wondering if anybody could tell me what needs to be tacken off? Does the whole hub have to come off? I would like to do this myself instead of paying a shop $$$ to do it. Thanx.
I sheared off a wheel stud this past season putting my winter tires on. From everything I could gather, I would've had to take the hub off which means breaking that huge (19mm?) nut loose. I took it to the dealer and paid them $48 to have the stud replaced. It was January in Ohio, so I considered it money well spent. I would imagine that changing 4 studs wouldn't be much more expensive than changing 1, since labor would be about the same and those parts are pretty cheap.

Most honda's that I have encountered, with the exception of EF civics and maybe DA integras, require the hub to be removed.
Some people will grind away at the upright to make clearance, grind off half of the stud head, etc, but that is not a risk I am willing to take.
I wrote a DIY on how to replace studs a while back, here is the link: https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=907985
Note how I stress at least 2 times that I would strongly suggest replacing the bearings at the same time. Since your car is a 94, they are probably going bad anyway.
My bearings were fine after I did the studs for another year, but I ended up getting new ones pressed in a couple of months ago just for piece of mind.
To do it myself was about $30 for 8 ARP studs, and $10 or so for brakleen and anti-seize. $30 at autozone for tool rental which was refundable.
To get the bearings put in, was $50 for each bearing, plus $50 for labor, which was a "hook-up" price, also with the spindles off the car. They probably would not charge you anything to put the studs in, since it would only take another 5 minutes tops for the fronts.
You can decide which way you would rather go.
