Default quickie wheel width/tire question

I wasn't exactly sure to how to search for it but I have tires that are 215/45-17 and I was wondering how wide can I have the wheel like 17x7 up to 17x8? Please let me know thanks!

You can look up specs for the tires you're using/considering on the tire manufacturer's website and/or the website of a retailer like the Tire Rack. Most 215/45-17 tires are approved for use on wheels 7.0-8.0 inches wide. I would choose 17x7 or 17x7.5 over 17x8, but any of these three widths should work fine.

Assuming (from your username) that this is for your '07 Civic Si Coupe, you can also consider going up to 215/40-18 tires on 18" rims (in the same rim widths as for 17").

I doubt it's even possible. The total number of 235/30-18 tires sold by the Tire Rack is ZERO. And even if they exist, 235/30-18 is much, MUCH too small in diameter for an '07 Civic Si; they're over 4 percent, over a full inch, smaller in diameter than the stock size.

Also, 30 series tires leave the wheels (usually expensive wheels, too) very susceptible to damage from potholes.
