Default Tire balancing question

I was wondering what it looks like to have your tire balanced and what they put on your wheels. I had my old tires that were on steelies and they put these metal clamps on them before which looked wack.

I have some rims now and I need to get my tires balanced, so I was wondering are they going to do the same thing? Any pics would be helpful

nope. most likely they will use sticky weights and put them on the inside of the wheel. Sorry no pix.

So they all use the same thing to balance tires?

the metal clamps weights go on outside of the wheel, which should allow a better balancing job.. - not a good idea since they can leave a mark

sticky weights go on the inside of the wheel - most places should have these - i suggest your request for these, so they don't have to guess on what kind of weights you want.

Are sticky weights expensive?

Tire balancing is universal. The clamp-style weights, (the ones that were on your old rims), are the most commonly used as they are the quickest & easiest to work with. As was already stated, make sure that you REQUEST them to use the stick-type weights & do a normal balance, (weights on the inside & outside of the rim). It'd be a good idea to ask them if the rubber guides on their machine are in good working order - if they aren't you may get your rims back with scratches all around the edges.

they should charge same price for either way, if its more than $40-50 per 4 tires, i'd go to another place

Could low tire air pressure cause your steering wheel to shake a little as well?

if its really low then it could increase steering wheel shake. Uneven tire pressure could also play a minor part. For me, if tires aren't balanced well, they shake less when i set the pressure to minimal (within safe specs).
