offset and width question on 17s
hey i have a 92 civic vx hatch with teg rear disc and teg front knuckles(bigger brakes and pistons) i am think of buying the rota boost and i started doing some research and realized how many different factors are involved in picking the correct wheel. i am debating between 17x7.5 with a +45 offset (i think thats stock offset) and some 17x8 with a +40 offset. my question is, is can i run a 8 inch wide rim on my hatch without rubbing the inside off the frame when turning sharp(like a U turn) and will the wheel protrude past the fender making it look funny with either offsets?, in which case i would have to roll the fenders? (does rolling fenders involve using an english wheel or something?) i have already discoverd that 17's with 205/40/17's (which i plan to run) are just a little bigger than stock diameter so with my modest 2 maybe 2.5 in drop i shouldnt rub the wheel well and if i do ill pull the plastics.
iv had 17s in the past but it was slamed witht he pinch welds beat upwards and it would drag the fenders when i turned. but this is a much more reasonable drop and i dont think i should have that problem as long as i can chose the correct offset.im main concerd is will 8 inch wide with +40 rub on fenders or frame and will 7.5 with +45 stick out past fender or come flush?
thanks for the help in advance!

The chances of rubbing are extremely high when you use tires that (a) are 30 mm or more wider than stock, or (b) 2 percent or more larger in outer diameter than stock. With 205/40-17, you are doing both, which means that rubbing will be extremely likely.
If you really want to do things right, though, you're MUCH better off getting some 16x7 wheels, and tires that are either 205/40-16 or 195/45-16. Then you probably won't have to worry at all.
However, if you MUST get 17" wheels, I recommend getting 195/40-17 tires, which are still about 2 percent larger in diameter, but not quite as wide, to reduce your chances of rubbing. There are some very good tires that come in that size. However, 195/40-17 tires are only approved for mounting on wheels 6.5-7.5 inches wide, and should not be mounted on 17x8 wheels.
Oh, and a 2.5-inch drop is neither "modest" nor "reasonable". It's part of the cause of the problems you're having. With a 2-inch drop or less, you're a lot less likely to have problems.

ahah well i was just saying that a 2.5 in drop is modest relitive to the 3 in drop i used to have. its actually probable only about 2 in, i put my old 17s on the back and they didnt even tuck at all, my old drop u could barly see the tires on the top. so im goind to give the 8 inches up and focus on the 7.5s. wont a 195 look kinda stretched on the rim? do you know if a +45 offset will have the rim flush ish to the fender?
thanks for your input
