Default Lug Adapters?

Anyone here use lug adapters? If so, what's your experience on them? It's so hard to find wheels from Japan with 4x100 so I'm thinking of either doing a 5 lug swap or just be cheap and do a lug adapter but I just want to know if it's safe or not.

I'm running 1.25" 5x114.3 to 5x120 converter and no problems so far

Going from a 4-lug to 5-lug setup (or some other change in overall bolt quantity) will require a really thick adapter, due to not having space for the new pattern in the spacer.

Is it safe? It can be, with a good quality adapter. Is it a smarter idea just to swap to a 5x114.3 hub setup? Yes.
