Help with Paint Removal
Hello,
I am new here so forgive me if I am posting in the wrong section. I own a 2005 Honda Civic EX Special Edition Coupe. The previous owner has done things to this car that I am trying to reverse. I am not a mechanic or a handy man but I am slowly learning. The black paint on one of my rims started to peel off naturally so I started to peel it all off. I found this was very time consuming and also it looked like crap. Can I use paint remover to speed up the process? All I want is the paint to disappear. I want my rims paint free. Please look at the pictures for more information.

Careful. You don't actually want them paint free. Paint free AL wheels are a maintenance PITA, and will require frequent polishing and waxing to look good.
They were painted with clear from the factory. If you use a chemical paint remover, you'll remove all of the paint, which will result in them oxidizing.

i just cleaned almost all of the years of brake dust off one of my wheels. i used citrus cleaner, a wire brush set, and shop towels. u can get all of these at wal-mart. maybe just use the nylon brush since the metal ones might scratch. they didnt on mine but u never know
I've used "Aircraft Stripper" from autozone to remove clearcoat as well as paint. I hear it's great for powdercoating too. I'm going to be trying to strip some PC'd wheels soon and plan to use the same stuff again.
It's not. Doesn't really touch it. At least speaking in regard to OEM wheels, I can't say one way or the other for aftermarket wheels because we don't deal in them. And I'm not trying to be rude, the only thing I've found other than the methylene chloride and hydrofluoric acid mixture we use that will actually strip powder coat is aerosol loctite gasket remover. And to say that the gasket remover strips powder coat is a stretch. Spray it on and let it sit for 20-30 minutes and it will soften the powder coat so that you can scrape it off. I certainly wouldn't want to use it on a whole wheel, way too much work.
