Default ARP wheel stud problem

I bought some ARP wheel studs for my civic after I had a couple of the factory studs break on the same wheel (almost came off while driving). I didn't want or need the extended because I don't plan on putting big slicks on it, and I wanted closed ended lug nuts. Which if you use a factory wheel, you know that you can't get ball seat closed end nuts that are extended... they just don't make em.

So I got the regular length studs. The problem is those have the rounded tip that sticks out about a quarter inch past the threaded portion. I ordered new lug nuts too. Because my old ones were open ended cone seat crap that didn't sit right, probably cause my huge stud failure to begin with. I wanted some nice locking closed end ball seat lug nuts, so I got Gorillias. The problem with those is they are short and made for factory length studs, which don't have that rounded bit sticking out.

To make a long story short, they are too damn short for my normal length arp's. When I put them one one wheel, the tip of the stud stretched out the top portion of the lug nut. Which I'm okay with if they all end up stretching to look the same and don't rip the top off the rest of the nut. I'm just concerned it might have distorted the threaded portion of the lug nut (the top didn't stretch too much though).

I'm just looking for opinions on a solution.

1) I could grind off the rounded tops of the arp's, down to the threads. But I'm worried about messing them up, or causing a balance issue, because they likely won't get cut down the exact same. If I did this, I still have 16 undamaged gorillas I could use. I thought ahead and got 20 of everything in case I go 5 lug in the future.

2) Or I'm thinking I could just say to hell with it and "bend out" the tops of the rest of them. The tops bend out about an eighth of an inch, so I don't know of that compromised the strength of the rest of the nut.

3) I could just get some factory nuts, but I don't wanna spend more money.

Default Re: ARP wheel stud problem

I guess I'm just gonna trade someone for some stockers, easiest and best solution. I just thought it would be good to inform people that Gorilla (ball seat) lug nuts won't fit on standard length ARP wheel studs. The guy I talked to that worked for ARP said that little rounded tip that protrudes past the threads is to aid pit crews when quickly reinstalling lug nuts... interesting to know. But anyway, those protrusions shouldn't affect stock lug nuts because they tend to be a bit taller than necessary. And the Gorillas (ball seat) omit that extra space and stop right where the threads end on the stud.
