Default another tire question!

Well i need advice and help on choosing the right tire for me for the right price! I am looking at Summer tires in 205/45/16's last year i had kumho ast's and they sucked handling wise but thats because there all seasons lol butt they were cheap! SO this year i got new wheels and i definitely want some summer tires that are best bang for the buck! i really dont want to spend too much, i looked at tire-easy.com which had alot more selection that tirerack and discounttiredirect. I heard SPT's are good but they are 93 a tire! THEN theres kumho kh11 for 47 a tire! But there max speed rating is 138 does this even matter? This will be ran on my semi built integra gsr sedan this summer..idk what tire to choose! help a homie out!

With tires, like with anything else, sometimes you get what you pay for. Not always, though. So it's always a matter of trying to buy the best tire for the money.

Yes, you want summer tires, not all-seasons (and the AST is a crappy all-season, too). In 205/45-16, the best "budget performance tires" are the Yokohama S.drive ($93/tire at the Tire Rack) and the Fuzion ZRi ($88/tire). If you want a less expensive tire and you don't mind slightly lower performance (still better than the crappy AST), you might also consider the General Exclaim UHP ($70/tire). If you pay less than that, you're looking at crappy tires - and you already know how that story turns out. After all, you didn't semi-build your motor just so you can buy tires that can't handle the extra performance, did you?

As always, check different websites for prices. For example, the Yokohama S.drive is $98/tire at Discount Tire Direct, and since DTD gives free shipping, that means your bottom line will be $5-10 less than the Tire Rack, which charges extra for shipping.

If you really want cheaper tires, you might consider swapping for 15" wheels. Tires in 15" sizes for your car (195/55-15 or 205/50-15) are often $20-25 less each than in 16" sizes.

The speed rating doesn't matter as long as you're not driving at speeds that exceed it.

The KH11, from what I can see on Kumho's website, is an extremely LOW performance summer tire, designed for those looking for ride comfort more so than performance. The Tire Rack doesn't even sell them.

There is a Kumho tire that is as good as the Yokohama S.drive, but it's the Kumho Ecsta SPT (also called the KU31), which has gotten rather hard to find, and won't be any less expensive than the S.drive.

Bottom line - I recommend the S.drive. And it will be a bit less expensive from Discount Tire Direct.
