I can adjust the coilovers up or down if need be but I want to know what size tires I should buy. You can use either 195/55-15 or 205/50-15. Either size will work, and differences between them are minor.

If the tire you want to get is only offered in one of these two sizes (like the Dunlop Star Spec in 195/55), get that one. If the tire you want to get is a lot cheaper in one of these two sizes than the other one, get that one.

Quick recommendations:

- If you need to use these tires in snow and frigid cold in the winter, as well as moderate to warm temperatures the rest of the year, you need an all-season tire; get the Kumho ASX in 205/50-15, $78/tire with free shipping from Discount Tire Direct.

- If you won't use these in snow, and you want the absolutely stickiest street tire you can get for dry pavement, get the Dunlop Sport Z1 Star Spec in 195/55-15, $83.50/tire after rebate with free shipping from Discount Tire Direct.

- If you won't use these in snow, and you want a tire with very good grip on dry pavement and excellent in rain, and lasts a reasonably long time, get the Yokohama S.drive in 195/55-15, $76/tire with free shipping from Discount Tire Direct.

1. 195/50-15 is too small for a '97 Civic. That's the size that older (pre-'96 Civics) use.

2. Kumho makes a whole bunch of tires with the Ecsta name on it - everything from supersticky Ecsta XS tires, to good "bang for the buck" Ecsta SPT summer tires, to good all-season ASX tires if you need to use the same tires in snow as in warm weather, to crappy all-season AST tires, to crappy Ecsta Supra 712 summer tires, and others as well. Referring to a tire as a "Kumho Ecsta" without specifying which tire you're talking about is meaningless.

I agree with nsxtasy. Here is my hatch with 205/50/15 Cooper Zeon zpt. This size was hard to find in one days notice.
