225/50/15 on 6.5 wheel?
Hello,
I cant seem to find a definitive answer to this question. My dilemma is I finished my Turbo Type R build and I currently have authentic spoon rims 15x6.5 +42 that currently have 205/50/15's mounted to them. But due to my power levels I would like to step up to a 225/50/15 R888R tire at an attempt to gain more traction. I would hate to have to give up the spoon rims and was wondering if I can fit that size onto them??

Are you tracking the car? Drag race? Daily street driving? 225 tire on a 6.5 rim will put major stress on the sidewalls and will generate a lot of heat this way. If you are strictly drag racing, then this will be OK because the stress duration will be for a shorter period of time.
However, if this is for tracking/street driving, you will be creating a problem for yourself down the road. It will not be beneficial for you (aside from gripping on a straight) to run that size tire on that size rim. You will experience massive roll from all the excess sidewall when you take a corner. This will generate a lot of heat, therefore resulting in premature tire wear (your tires will most likely pop before the treads wear down).
205 is usually the best tire size if you choose a setup for street driving. If you choose the 225 route, you will have to give up for SW388 for something like the 949R 6UL 15x8. You will then cause premature wear on your suspension (tie rods/bushings). People that choose 225 usually only go this aggressive for a track-only car to not wear prematurely from street driving.
TLDR;
OK if drag racing ONLY.
Not OK if tracking/street driving.
