is 205/45/17 too big for 17x7 on 96 civic hatchback?
Hey guys i have a set of 17x7 Racing Hart C2's laying in the garage and i want a new look for my 96 civic hatch thats currently sitting on Work Emotion 15x7's, i have a sweet deal on some 205/45/17 tires, is that too tall? I want to be low enough to barely tuck the tires, i know most use 205/40/17.
Hell i know most people don't rock 17's anymore but im just trying to change it up
EDIT: i goofed the title, the rims are 17x7 NOT 17x9

It's not too tall, but if you're gonna dumped it, stick to 205/40/17. And it depends on your offset, too. If you're beyond 37 ET, you're goin' to rub.

the tires are too big and you may have rubbing issues. if you have coilovers i would play with your height levels to get the desired height before you can get the best tire for your application which is 205/40-17 (as you already stated)

Yes, let the deal pass.
Also, I recommend getting 195/40-17 rather than 205/40-17. 195/40-17 is closer to the outer diameter of your stock tires (175/70-13), and it's perfect for 17x7 rims. There are some very good tires available in 195/40-17, particularly the Continental ContiSportContact 2 with its current $75 rebate offer.

Thanks for the info nsxtasy, i am not saying i am an uber race car driver or anything but i typically only drive on R comp tires and a quick search found nothing in that size i know the continental tire you suggested would be an outstanding choice for a daily driven car but i drive my car once in a blue moon so I usually get well over a year out of R comps.
I decided to keep the 15's for now, i just grabbed some potenza re01's at $85 a piece to replace my NT01's, i know the potenzas are not R comps but i hope they will be comprable.

There's no reason to use R compound tires if you only use them on the street. They wear extremely fast so they won't last long, they don't do well in rain, and they really don't grip all that well until they get hot, which they won't do on the street. Stick to street tires on the street. The RE-01R is an excellent choice for street use.

45 series for 16", 35 or 40 series for 17" to maintain diameter of original equipment
195/45/16 or 205-45/16; 195/40/17 or 205/40/17; 215/35/17

Offset is really important as diameter increases. More positive offset creates tramlining and affects scrub radius. Currently testing 17" bolt-ons from bmw mini cooper on '94 del sol si with 48 offset. No rubbing or tramline issues with 205/40/17s. Pressure is currently at 35 psi with no sidewall rollover while testing for maximum cornering adhesion. The only drawback is OEM wheel weight at 20.6 lbs, even though they are the lightest 17" wheel offered by bmw mini. Oh, yeah, combined higway/city mpg has decreased from 36mpg to 33.5mpg due to increased rotational mass.

For example, look at the outer diameters in the 16" sizes and you'll see why your statement doesn't make sense:
175/70-13: 22.65" (stock)
195/45-16 (your recommendation and mine): 22.91" (+1.2 percent)
205/40-16 (my recommendation): 22.46" (-0.8 percent)
205/45-16 (your BAD recommendation): 23.26" (+2.7 percent)
Also, the 205/45-16 and 215/35-17 sizes you recommend are very likely to rub, since they are larger than the stock outer diameter as well as 30-40 mm wider.

Using stock del sol figures for 185/60 and 195/60 14" wheels for vtec.
All tires listed fit those parameters.

Just the facts. He'll find that those tires that most closely represent the actual oem tire diameter are more expensive.

Which has nothing to do with a '96 Civic hatchback.
There are no "facts" in your posts. Only mistakes. Please, when you obviously don't know what you're talking about, don't post things that are just plain WRONG.
