Default Yesterday's project fuel tank sump

Well I got some time to pull off the tank and make a sump for the tank. Here are a couple of pics.

I wish I would have taken a few pics before I welded the sump on.

What I did, is drilled three 2.5" holes in the oem tank, so I have some kind of baffeling between the sump and the oem tank.

stupid question... Why do you have to baffle it?

So the fuel doesn't "jump" out of the sump between shifts.

Yes thats why you want to have some kind of baffles, that way the fuel dosent run all the way forward when shifting, or cornering.

cool. thanks for clearing that up, I kinda figured it had something to do with the movement of the gas.

Today, I got the fuel pump and filter installed, and routed the fuel line to the eng. bay.

why not a fuel cell, i mean it looks great man but youd be able to shave some weight taking out the tank.

^^^ I would have done a fuel cell, but the car is still a daly driver and when I race, I am not allowed a fuel cell in my class.

You need to have the pump at the same height or lower than the sump.... This is the purpose if sumping the tank because it is not a puller type pump that you are using. You will see that you will have fuel feed problems.

With the way you have it setup now (about the halfway mark up the tank is about where the pump is mounted) you will have to maintain more that a half tank of fuel to have a positive pressure at the pump inlet.

All in all just lower the pump and you will be straight.

I will be doing this next week with the same setup as you, but in a DC2.

are you running a K series? or did you keep the return line at the top where the original pump goes?

what do you think about the pumps location as stated above? is this going to be a problem for you?

I dont' think its going to be a problem. I tested the pump to see if it works, when I had the car's rear end on jacks. I put it about 3 gallons of gas in the tank and it pumped out allmost all of it. But I will have to see how it works in the real world.

I also seen many drag cars that have the pump higher than the fuel cell, and never created a problem for them. So I really think im going to be ok. I really want to keep the pump as high off the goround as I can.

When I do go race, I usually keep about half of tank of gas. That way I have enough for the whole afternoon. So I don't have to pay the real expensive gas prices at the track.
