The whole point of a welded rose is that you made it yourself!!

^^ Correct, i made one a long time ago. doing the stem and leaves wasn't to bad, but the actual rose was a bitch. Took many hours.

This is the first one I made. It's not that bad. Technially you don't have to do any welding on it if you plan it right.

No prob! Nobody wanted to share how they made them so I spent like 30mins on google! Its obviously no secret. I just ordered a sheet of stainless but that copper looks awesome too!

You dont need much. Check your local Lowes, Home Depots, Menards, etc. If they dont have a big enough sheet (which they will, I can bet) then find a local metal supplier like Metal Supermarkets, Pacific Metals, etc.

Im doing mine out of aluminum. Ballin.

I made one last year. Got the SS sheet from my normal metal supplier and a used a 1/8th tig rod for the stem. Thin sheet is a hell of a lot easier to work with for a project like this, harder to weld but bends and shapes easier.

the only reason you want to buy one is becuase you did the math huh?

metal = price spike
gas = not cheap
filler = not free.
electricity = up in price

ya, noone really wants to shape and weld up a rose for $20 shipped, we can turn around and do fence work for $85/hour easy

do it yourself, she will appreciate the fact you made it yourself.

anneal it if you have to or heat it up and bend while hot if you got fatigued

for some reason, there are three suppliers around me, all with VERY different prices on gas.

AIRGAS charged me $60 to fill my 80 CF bottle.
TECHAIR wanted 112 to fill a 300CF bottle, and for me to open an account with them.
WELDALL only wanted $200 bottle deposit, and $50 to fill a 300CF bottle with argon. I went with them, so now re fills are only $50. I couldn't believe how much some guys wanted for stupid argon! lol

But yeah, shop around and you can find some cheap gas. Metal is kinda expensive, you're right, but thin sheet shouldn't be too much. And filler is basically free, for the amount you're going to use on a rose. To DIY it won't be much at all.

Another great trick for random projects is to hit up your local dollar stores. They have all sorts of steel, stainless and aluminum cookware that can be hacked into various things.

I'm in NYC also and I usually get my tank (120) filled at Airgas for $37.00.. When me and my bro were first looking into getting a tank the prices were all over the place at Airweld.
