Work boots.
im only a part timer at my work so dont do heavy line work, I wear a pair of DC skate shoes, all the full time mechanics at our shop swear by Redbacks( made in australia), steel toe, waterproof slip ons, i think they run about $140.
The first set of boots I got were Hy-test. They're steel toe pig skin and were purchased probably 6 years ago. I still wear them. The soles only wore through this year. They were very comfortable and held up quite well. I've heard poor things about the quality of the newer hy-test boots, but I can't verify this. I can say that I have been impressed with mine.
I recently replaced them with a set of Wolverine composite toe non slip boots. I picked these up off a friend for filthy cheap, and they've been very comfortable so far. I haven't torn them up too much yet, but from what I've seen, the quality seems to be good.
I will say that there is a boot store that is held in high regard in the next town over that I went to for my first set. He didn't steer me toward the most expensive thing, but did point out the factory seconds for Hy-test. The set I got was about $100 less than the regular priced version, and only had a few cosmetic blemishes. You may want to see if there's a similar store around your area.

Wow, Thanks for all the responses People. As An update I went back to Redwings again. I found out that they have more in the store than they have online. Also they have a computer that you stand on and it measures your foot length, width, and pressure points, weather it be more on the heels or on the ***** of your feet. as it turns out i have a very high arch on my feet and the sales guy rec. an insert that would helpout with that so i got those also. walked out the door with 198.97$ less then when i walked in, but they are very nice... thanks again.
