Work boots.
Ok people i know i am going to get a bunch of BS for posting this in the weld/fab page, but i thought about it and most of you guys are professionals that stand on a solid concrete floor all day like me, so i thought this would be the best place to ask. I am getting ready to replace my 2 year old pair of Red Wing boots, and need some help in selecting a new pair. I am an Automotive technican and stand up, slighty bent forward all day long, on concrete. I pefer a flat bottom sole cause I dont plan on going hiking with these boots after a long day of wrenching. What is everyone else wearing , do you like them, lasted a while, or any horror stories about a certin Brand? Work boots may seem kinda petty to ask about on here, but if you look at some of the $$ they charge for good ones, you will see why i am asking for some advice, as its kind of a small investment. Thanks in advance...
This is a good question
my last two pair have been Timberland Pro's the 6" Pit Boss steel toe ones and i have a few things to say about them both positive and negative
here in CT they cost about a $95-110 depending on where you get them and if they have a sale or not
each pair have lasted between 1 yr to 1 1/2
when you first get these they are stiff as a rock which i hate breaking them in
the comfort isnt the greatest until they are fully broken in
the leather durability is good on them and if you are a mechanic like me getting down to put the lift under and having your toes drag all the time they last very long in that aspect of the leather quality
the soles last a long time and you dont have to worry about them wearing out
both pairs i have owned i was no wear near to wear the soles out when i was done using them
overall the boot is a good boot not the best but not the worst i would give these a 7 out of 10
i just purchased a pair of Chippewa boots
the comfort far exceeds the TIM PRO's from the start
they feel like you have been wearing them for 6 months when you first put them on
i havent had them long enough to really get into detail with the wearing on the soles or the leather yet but i would say from what i have done with them so far they are an overall better boot then the TIM's
these were $18X.XX
but i guess you get what you pay for as is with everything else you buy
well i hope this little write up helps you to pick the boot that will suite your needs

Sears sells a similar boot that is just as good and cheaper.
Avoid Bates or boots that are made for those who work in security. The leather is meant to be pretty not durable.

I wear skate shoes because they're way more comfortable than boots. I have a pair of Timberland steel toes in the shop closet if I feel like ****'s going to be falling. It's way easier to feel the tig pedal with my Circa CX211's.

AHAhahahahahh I thought I was the only one thatt wore skate shoes at work. By far the most comfertable shoes for walking around on cement all day. I used to have a pair of redwings and for boots they rock.

i wore for a couple yrs catapillars theyh are stiff but durable dropped a couple things on the toes and had a couple cars run me over no problems.
got a pair of doc martins, REAL comfortable. the anti slip tread started slipping near the end, and i puntured the leather on the steel toe part. that was a yr on those
for comfrot doc's
for durability, catapillars. those suckers lassted forever.
BTW if someones working on cars in skate shoes, thats fucked up. they are called accidents for a reason. and its against osha regs

yea OSHA is someting to worry about. I dunno i just didnt like any of the current redwing styles or look. may be i am making this too hard on myself. but i just dont want a tan boot that is gonna look dirty all the time , id rather it be black. thanks for all the help though.
i am also a tech.and i have been wearing redback shoes from matco tools.i have had mine for three years now and are still great.they are steel toe and i think that they are the lightest boot around.
ill throw in one vote for carolina's steel toe. they used to be oem for the military. right now, i would get another pair when these blow out, ive got no complaints.
the older version cats were pretty good but the last pair only went for a month and a half before they were shreaded. before the carolina's i had a pair from iron age or iron something, they were great and really comfortable

for redwings...they are the most comfortable boots that i have ever wore....i can wear them for 12hrs plus and my feet are not sore or tired. cant say that about my adidas.....
I used to wear a 5 yo pair of new balances to work. Comfortable, but when I was moving tires a couple of weeks ago I trew one on my foot from about seven feet up. It ripped my big toe nail all the way off!
I'm now looking for a good pair of steel toe shoes/boots.
