Default What material thickness for which application???

Hallo everyone

I've tought about what material thickneses I'll be using for which parts, and wanted to get some inputs about that And also how I'll be welding those parts... And tought that this may be informative for other new guys out there, so, here's what I have in my mind:

1) Turbo manifolds - sch10/sch40 - big bevel, with filler, full penetration, fully back purged... no questions here, as this is what everyone does.

2) NA Headers - I think about 1/16(16gauge) wall if possible, or minimum of .059" wall, if thats the only thing I'll be able to get - I think with little bevel(chamfer) + filler, or maybe without bevel, of course with filler if I can get it nicely done... fully back purged, 100% penetrated. what do you think?

3) Turbo downpipes/wastegate dumptubes - I think I'll be using .078"(2mm) wall if without flex(as we are in Latvia and we don't have places which have SS flex in stock, so 60$ + shipping is kinda too much for avarage Latvian )... and maybe 1/16" wall if with flex??? Also with little bevel + filler, or without bevel + filler if I can get a nice straight weld. Also 100% penetrated and fully back purged.

4) Exhaust systems(from header, or from downpipe to end muffler) - the same 1/16" or 0.59" wall. The question is - back purged with full penetration, or fuse welded, without full penetration and back purging???? if with penetration, then with filler rod, with or without bevel... will see.

5) Charge pipes(SS, as I'm not able to weld aluminium yet) - 1/16" wall or thiner... as thin as possible, I think .045 should be good. Question is - good fit-up, no back purge, not penetrated - fuse welded or back purged, with penetration, with small filler or without filler, also with or without little bevel?

Hope you all get the idea of this topic, and idea of what I'm trying to decide on

Hope experianced guys to chime in with some approvals for what I have in mind or with some advices

Thanks!!!

kind of heavy for exhausts. i mean you can use 0.059" wall (assuming you didnt really mean 0.59", or half inch) but it will be heavy. try welding stuff down to 0.035-0.040 wall.

The rest i will leave to the experts, but i think it mostly on the person. I went through all of 9bells exhaust thread yesterday and he was doing both constant speed with dipping and fuse welded on different applications over time. Im sure he can comment more on the logistics of it though.
