A master welder? It can take decades to get that certification.... And you are 19. Hmm.

I've been welding for 19 years... and didn't even know you could get a certification for it. I thought it was just what people called themselves to make them sound better or something. If I'm wrong here, point me to information about this. Maybe I need to become a "master welder."

Then what makes somebody a master welder? I'm not meaning this in a bad way, just I have heard the term many times and nobody's yet explained to me what exactly it takes to be a master welder.

I don't see what's so funny. I'm just saying that I can hopefully practice up and get better with my welding.

For most types of skilled labor, there are three levels of certification:

Apprentice
Journeyman
Master

There is no ASE certification test that you can take to attain the rank of master, but it is not something you should be throwing around at a whim. A master is the skilled labor equivilent of a Professor. Since I doubt you have ever taken apprentices, you should not call yourself a master welder.

My father, before he died, had been a welder working for WaltCo for more than 20 years, and he was still a journeyman welder.

So what do you call the guy who baits your hook if he has been doing it for like 20 years?

maybe it's a geographical thing?

Don't take it too badly. This is the internet where we all take turns catching **** from each other. It can't be your turn for long or others will feel left out.
