I have heard of people cutting a potato in half and putting the cut side on top of your eye. Im not sure if it works but its worth a shot.

one thing I remember hearing from my welding teacher is that you should not use visine or other eye products that remove the redness. the redness is actually your eyes opening up the veins to allow it to flow the blood it needs to clean it out or something like that...basically don't use visine, clear eye's, etc. when you get it.

First off id like to thank everyone for the help.

As for you guys saying stop looking at the monitor. My brother actually got it and i was making the post for him and yea he cant look at the monitor or any bright lights lol. He didnt get it to bad (he wasnt welding. he was on a job site helping his friend and they were setting mirrors too and with mirrors everywhere it was shining all over.) and hes feeling better. Thanks again.

Be careful with that stuff man. When I'm in the shop, I look away even if someone is welding 30 feet away from me.

this is very good info...from my underdstanding most eye drops actaully freeze up the viens...hence making the redness dissappear...but you can use eye drops...it helps damp'n the eyes and heal the eye...but the doc's gel is by far the best in helping heal...

not to mention clear eyes in general sucks...aside from welder's flash...visine is the way to go

i had mine for literally 3 days of blindness...guess i really couldnt hide be hind the torch

yeah you were definatly a wreck, i remember telling you when you finished welding "just wait a few hours" and sure enough..

Haven't gotten it, so I'm only speaking from what I have learned via reading:

The "Potato Trick" isn't to cut it in half, but to peel it and grate it with a cheese grater, like you are making potato patties or hash browns. Place a handfull of the raw potato grating over your eyes (with your eyelids shut of course). Kick back and get comfortable ... recommended you do this for at least 30 minutes.

Jesus, am I the only one who read this thread, and all of a sudden had drippy eyes and clogged sinuses :-P

How long did you look at the weld before you stopped or looked away? I have flashed myself for a split second a few times, and NOTHING has happened eye wise. The only burns I can remember were when I was using torch goggles welding, and burnt the crap out of my face after about 20 minutes of beads.
