Yeah, they work great depending on the application. What are you working on?

something like that I might just get the die....In my experience the files are difficult to use if you cant hold the item in your hands to hold pressure against it while you file the threads, It might just be me, I dunno....How much is the file you need? It might be worth giving it a try if it isnt too much.

Dont get the file cause its only 10 bucks. Using the die would be the best way to do it.

I have dies for most common metric bolts under M14, but the thread file I have is an awesome catch-all for cleaning up threads on bolts I don't have dies for. If you want to do it right, get the die, but if it needs to be finished yesterday, break out the file.

I am going to out on the limb here and say that the threads on the countershaft are probably pretty hard and may not file that well. Are you sure the nut isn't the problem? It would be the softer of the two and be more prone to being the prob.

heres an idea , someone else told me for a lefthanded thread.....If you can get another NEW nut or 2. Take them and file several lines through the threads of the nuts (perpindicular). It will sort of resemble a thread chase and if you take your time, use cutting oil, and back it off often to clean the threads and remove the slivers....if the threads are not too gummed up it should work

I would at least try the thread file, they have always worked for me. If it doesn't work then you have thread file to use in the future. Just take your time when using it.
