tacking methods?

Default tacking methods?

Im a little curious as to how you guys tack your work together. I usually try and just fuse it with the tig, but sometimes its in odd positions and stuff, so its a little harder to do. Do any of you guys tack it with a mig? if not, what are you guys doing?

I usually work with a friend and use some .035 filler.

With a good set of magnets, corner clapms, or working on a jig, I find things alot easier. The less you have to worry about holding something in place with your left leg while you're reaching under another tube to hold the one you're putting in position while you tack it (me fixing a shirt pressing machine last week) the more you can think about the weld. Sometimes though, stuff sucks and yeah, on thicker stuff I fuse, on thinner stuff I hold a rod over the gap and just arc on the filler to melt it and hold the pieces.

Edit: k24: three hands? You work with the one armed man? Takes alot of talent to tig with one hand. kudos.

I've kinda learned to hold the tig torch and filler metal in the same hand when it comes to tacking if there's no one else around. Magnets tend to distort the arc and make it even tougher to tack something up.

i feel the pain here. i have times when i have to kneel down on a knee and use my other damn knee for the pedal control and that hard to stay stable and not fall or lean too much into the pedal, heh ;(
