suggestions on cleaning dyno rollers?
i had a car come on my dyno that had its oil filter fall off and completely oil down the dyno. we had to take the dyno all apart and try our best to clean it. we "thought" we did a good job......but after that incident we cant get any cars to make more than 550 horsepower. all of the cars have proven at the track that they are making well over 550.
does anybody have any suggestions? your standard type of floor cleaners, degreesers, and brake cleaner didnt do the trick. i need some crazy illegal crap or something. does anybody have any ideas? dynojet wasnt much help

I have seen race teams use Acetone to clean the rollers from rubber build up
not sure how it will work for oil ...
We have a dynapack so i havnt tried it

so the rollers are still covered in oil? wheels keep spinning on the dyno?
some heavy duty engine degreaser and high power pressure washer should blast the oil off......

Maybe the stuff you used to clean it made it worse?
If it was me, i would scrub the **** out of it with a big brush and some undiluted simple green. Then do an acetone rub down after that to remove all traces of the cleaner as well.

what you suggested is pretty much what we did, minus the acetone.
i partially think the optical trigger was effected because VSS from dattalogs vs. VSS on the dyno are very far off, which is obviously going to effect the power output as well. its hard to tell if its just from wheel spin though.
the dyno rollers are no longer "soaked" in oil......but cars are def. breaking traction easier than they used to. i would say at power levels they shouldnt be spinning at....but there is no possible way we are getting accurate numbers. im going to try to inspect/clean the pick up in the morning.
to give an idea i had a 42r car making 550 @ 30psi.....which is clearly wrong...and at the same 30psi it went 148 at the track, falling on its face between the 1-2 shift...so it had more in it at that boost level. id say we are an easy 150 horsepower off.....the amount of fuel being used agreed with the estimated power and trap speed as well.

If it's slipping that bad won't there be an obvious discrepency between mph measured at the dyno and shown on the cars speedo?
no....the filter fell off when cruising only going about 20mph. it just made a mess. a big one.

wednesday is a rwd turbo car....they seem to hold traction up to 1000whp effortlessly, so hopefully that will give us a better idea of whats going on too.

laquor thinner will work better the acitone. it will take the paint off too probably.
you could probably burn it off with a map gas torch. don't hit it too hard though.

i had to use paint thinner in a hand pumped sprayer like what you use to spray insecticide. we had a rearend come apart on our rear rollers and that redline gear oil is a friikin mess. then they left it there overnight and didnt clean it up till the morning, wow!
thank god we still have 2 more rollers on the front. its the only good thing about an awd dyno!
