Default Stainless for down pipe?

A friend of mine owns a welding and fab shop so I asked a him to get me some 304 stainless for making a downpipe and screamer tube, he does not think its a great idea, his thinking is it will crack and recommended 321, all well and good but it costs a fair bit more than 304. What are you guys using and have you had any problems?

304 for sure. No reason to doubt it.

for headers, i would recommend 321, but for downpipe 304 is ok.

if you read on burns stainless, they have a pretty good article on 321 vs 304 for fi vehicles.

So I now have all the bends I need to make the down pipe but one of the flanges is 316 as is one of the bends, can I use 308l filler wire or will I need to use 316l to joint 304 to 316? Have done an interweb search but could not come up with a solid answer.

I would just use 347 if you read more on burns stainless you can use it on all stainless to stainless joints and you use 309 to join stainless to mild
