Squarewave vs. Non-Squarewave??
Me and a buddy bought a used tig from a friend. It is an older unit, ac/dcen/dcep, a fairly heavy duty.
Although it does not do square wave on the ac setting.
I am new to tig, basicly just trying to teach myself. I seem to be doing great at steel.... But aluminum, not so much.
I am just wondering how much of a difference it will make going to a machine that has the square wave feature. Is it something that i should maybe look at upgrading to?
What would you more experienced guys reccomend?
Also what do you generally use for tungsten for aluminum? green or orange?

Ive been browsing around, I seem to be stuck on the miller syncrowave 200. I think that it should be a great welder and has a few more options than the linclon precision tig 225.
What do you think?

I know that people were using green primarily for aluminum, but i was reading on millers site that it is starting to be more common to use orange.. Apparently it will stay pointed with aluminum?

yea I was just a the trade show talking with the miller rep, and they are recommending the orange (cerrated) tungstens. They start pointed rather than balling it, like green, and work great. They have a new hobby welder, the replacement for the econotig i think its called the dynasty, which is small, but a very precise and affordable welder.
Ive not had much experience with square wave, im used to analog and it seens to do just fine for me.
