Hi guys, i was wondering if using big cups will affects to width of the welds in AC? im using #12 cup and when i try to weld small parts it's impossible! on the other hand with DC , welding stainless i can weld without problems any small piece.. i dont know if i can get similar arc that i get welding on DC.

i weld all my aluminum with a #8 cup with no arc or weld contamination issues.

Hi, yes i know , but i means about width of the welds, i'd like to get thinner welds like stainless welds.. not sure if using bigger cups have to do with it.

No, it doesn't. The shape of the point of your tungsten can sometimes change the width of the weld puddle, but there is no way you'll be getting thin aluminum weld beads like you do with stainless. That is, unless you don't care much about them holding up.

Also worth noting, you don't really want to weld aluminum with the big cups. Big cups are expensive, and if you ever accidentily dip your tungsten you get aluminum spatter that will stick to and destroy your cup over time. Use the smaller more affordable ones, especially since you can run a lot less gas on aluminum than you would for good color on SS.

^^^ indeed^^^

u want tighter welds on aluminum, get an inverter machine so u can adjust ur frequency...... but they will be no where near as tight as steel tig welds.

yes, mine is inverter, i can adjust frequency, how many frequency do you use?

i will remove big cup and will get smaller one but keeping gas lens..does it ok?

the higher the frequency the tighter the bead, mess with it and see what u get. the highest i go when welding thin stuff is 150 but thats all my invertec goes to.
