Yeah, that's how it works. When you have someone experienced tell you all the key points of what it takes to weld correctly, it has a huge impact. When you buy a machine at your house, and your best teacher is reading on the internet, it's not so easy.
Good work though, the welds are nice. Pretty pipe helps....

looks super! I still dont get how to achieve all that color at all... i have set the argon to flow 15 up to 40... no luck. Tried diff tungstens, tried a huge gas lense and cup, different SS filler sizes and grades, different torch angles, etc.... and I get color, but not like that.... its killin me.
damn good. i've been welding for 5+ years. beats the crap out of my stuff. your teacher must have given you some pretty good tips. i taught myself and it took years, not months.
you have pics of the inside?

Basics are the key to success... Without them, you would really have no idea where to start except to try it out yourself... Then you start learning a bunch of bad habits, and then trying to "unlearn" them as you move along with more experience. The "unlearning" is the hard part

That is fair progress for that amount of time. Are you welding every day, once a week, or what? Just be careful and watch what you read on the car forums. There's a lot of bad habits and bad advice on them.

Crutches are helpful if you have a broken ankle...but only hinders the movement of a healthy person. Pumping the pedal is the same. Pumping the pedal is an absolute waste of time. It's like putting a bandaid on a bullet hole. In over 20 years of welding, I have not yet seen anybody do this at a papermill, food processing plant, chemical plant, nuclear plant, or anywhere else. It is simply improper technique.
