Roll cage labor quote
Purchased a ken kustom prebent moly 6pt was wondering what typical installation labor would be on a 95 hatch. I have been calling local shops for quotes and some have been what I consider high, high to the point that if i were to have a shop bend and install one it would be the same price. I know tig labor isnt cheap but figured I'd ask
Probably are quoted high because shops look at those kits as fixing someone else's mess up. The Kens is a well bent kit but some are not. I paid 1000 for a full 10 point chromoly cage and parachute and window net. It was very tucked up to body lines and fit great.
Alot depends on where your located. Avg. welding cost in So Cal could be from $65/hr to $100/hr for example. But no way should just welding in an already 6point cage come out to the price of a custom made cage unless your asking for extra besides place and weld.
I got a quote for a custom 6pt in a 92 hatch for $1200, same shop told me if I brought in a prefab it would be $500 in labor. Factor in the price of the prefab and you might as well go custom
Name and Phone number to the place that did a 10 point chromoly cage, parachute and window net for a 1000 bucks?

damn did they weld it or glue it on . thats stupid cheap
Yes, So true. The time it takes to do something right is quite time consuming. There is no way in hell the guy doing a 10 point with chute broke even. He lost money doing that deal for sure. By the time you figure materials for tools to cut and process the metal for a cage, and gas. Good luck. I qoute 10 points at $3500. And that is a quote, not stone clad.
Guys, we need to keep our rates up. I mean, our local Honda dealership labor rate is $95/hr. Do you think any of those mechanics could pic up a tig and put 2 pieces of metal together. Let alone do it correct and pass tech. I mean we do a specialty service that is not that common. Don't get fooled into thinking someone doing a 10 point with chute for $1000 is reasonable, or a good deal. Good deal for who? The customer. No way a person can continue doing business like that and stay in business.
