Default Reducer....

I've been contemplating for awhile about making my car a little quieter and different style muffler. Something like Vibrant style. But my exhaust piping is 70mm (2.75") and I can't find anything in that size, either too small or too big 2.5" or 3". Oh, I have a 2.5" 'racer header' paired with the 70mm exhaust.

Buddy told me I could use a reducer. Is there anything wrong in doing this? Will I loose any power? Which is the best route to take, 2.75" to 3" or 2.75" to 2.5"?
