Re: (cua0)
my welding teacher told me that it should look like that on the bottom. when i weld mild steel he tells me that it should go all the way through. im a bit confused now
what material is that on your latest welds? thickness? what are your settings. they look sweet.

Re: (BOOSTEd2)
My latest welds pictured are 16 gauge stainless steel. I'm not sure on what grade it is. I've just started practicing welding up 1.5" schedule 40 SS. Really Fun. I can't get full penetration in 1 pass with any decent color at this point. My welding instructor wants me to do a more agressive bevel and gap the piping a bit. I'll be back at it tonight.

Justin

Re: (BOOSTEd2)
Started working with stainless steel 1.5" schedule 40 piping for turbo manifolds. Here is a test piece I was working on tonight. As you can see I cut the end off of this pipe to see how well my other weld penetrated.
I really need to set this up to be backpurged and do it right. This was one of my first attemps at 1.5" sch40 SS, so I was just trying to get used to going around a piping instead of in a straight line. I need more of a crown on my welds I think.
Anyway, How large a gap would you recommend for 1.5" sch 40 304SS? What angle bevel should I put on the pipe? Also, should the bevel go all the way down, or should I leave a flat portion of the pipe end for fit up to the other pipe?
Regards,
Justin

from the colors i see, you are moving to slow... from the bead i can tell you are running a good amperage..
but try moving a little faster.. you will get a better color..
what size filler rod are you using for those last welds you just poster?
