painting question
i'm in the middle of painting my front lip right now and i had a few questions. i just finished putting on my third layer of paint and was wondering when i put the clear coat on. this one thread said to put it on when it dries (5-10 minutes) and this other thread said to wait 45 minutes. also, you can see some of the strokes from where i sanded. do i clear coat anyways? will it dissapear once i clear coat it? do i spray it with a clear coat then wet sand it with 800 grit? do i wet sand it first with 800 grit and then clear coat it?

Re: painting question (Jxi8s2k)
Answer me this. WHen you sanded, what grit did you use??
Normally i wait 15 mins in betweeen clear coats, but thats with automotive paint. I am assuming your rattle canning it??
Either way, 15 mins is fine in between coats..

Re: painting question (dr.NAPIER)
i did. i sanded with 320, then washed it with soap and water, then painted. i just did 2 coasts of clear and i'm gonna let it dry over night. i'm probably gonna sand it again with 800 grit on the bad spots and then do a clear one last time. is there a problem with that?

Re: painting question (Jxi8s2k)
if your are not gonna use any type of a sealer before your put your base color on you should sand it with 600 if your gonna use sealer you can sand it with 400 as far as time in between coats of clear you want to wait about 10 minutes depending on temp. warmer=shorter wait colder=longer wait. if you can see sanding scratches you didnt sand it with a fine enough grit.
