making closed deck b16 block?
Hi,i'm kinda new here and new with Honda in general,i have a 99 impreza turbo Gt Ej25 block with too much stuff on it to list.
recently i purchased a 94 Honda hatchback with a Dx 1.5 motor and automatic transmission, after some work it became a b16 engine with manual transmission and now i'm thinking about making it turbocharged on a low budget.
i saw the "DIY filled b series block" and then i was like hey that closed deck idea is nice but why not go all the way?
why not just make an aluminum template(dont really know how thick it needs to be)put it inside the sleeve weld it on to the block and then just re-bore and resurface it?
its really not that difficult for me because i have all those machines at work and i do cylinder heads on a daily basis.
whole lot better then that whimpy block-guard and lets say more trust worthy then filling the block with epoxy.
any thoughts on the subject?

whats your time worth to ya? cause you can get a block sleeved for a pretty decent price and not have to deal with anything but waiting to get it back.
truthfully?
its not about the money its more about doing it alone,i have the time and I'm not really in a rush.
in general is it better then sleeving it and will it work well?

Like so?

I don't weld them in though (0.01-0.02mm interference install with heat or liquid nitrogen), if you want the solid file pm me your email address, the water ports are spot on.
I think it's around 14mm thick...

I was thinking the same thing. It looks like a block guard that was installed too high and got resurfaced along with the block to give the appearance/illusion of being a closed deck block - he also said it wasn't welded which furthermore led me to believe it is a block guard.
