Default How do to get started in welding?

I want to start welding some of my own peices...and was wondering how do i start.

take a class at a community college, find someone that can show you, or just buy a welder and teach yourself

dude that's cheap. build a couple exhuasts and a couple for your friends and you payed for it.

spend about $300 for your first mig welder. if you think thats too expensive then i suggest you just leave it to someone else

I took a shop class many moons ago in high school and learned to weld on an arc welder. That is a pretty serious learning curve. All we did was weld beads up and down a metal pad until our beads were satisfactory.

If you ever get serious about welding you will need to weld a very nice bead. Things like NHRA legal cages can't have the welds ground down, so you have to do it right the first time.
