Laugh all you want but I have done some tests and it helps keeping the engine bay cooler by average 15 degrees.

it makes my car look stupid, but it works, it has reduced the under hood temp, especially in the summer you can open the hood and not get blasted with hot air.

Where did you put the sensor to measure this?

I did this on a car and went to a local skate shop an bought doh-doh bushings from skateboard trucks.

used the bigger ones for the rear and the smaller ones for the front. Looked sick when you look up close.

I have one simple test performed a few winters ago. With hood propped I couldn't get the car up to temp. With hood as it is from factory... warmup in minutes.

No data... but the lack of ability to get car upto temp played into it.

This was on a stuck thermostat car also btw... but the comparison is still valid.

trust me, you won't be the only one in holland

ik rij al een klein jaartje zo rond

it all started when my ragged old d15 radiator could not keep up with my bseries swap.

after the hood pop my cooling problem got better but the best increase i saw in my intake temps. only 0-5 degrees warmer then ambient temp at WOT at about 60-100-125-150+ mph
that is with a Warm Air Intake.

it works alright

There made of cardboard, so when it rains, it will get mushy.

Check in the F.I. forum. Someone with major heat issues was trying different things, this being one of them. It did get his ECT's down 10-15F, which can mean a lot if you really are pushing your cooling system.

Then he took a junk hood, cut a gap/hole in the front like on the EVO's, and it helped a LOT more than just the washers.

IMO if you don't have a turbo, there's no reason to do this besides looks. I don't think it looks all that great. What I find funny is the same people who do this will regularly flag vented hoods as 'rice', despite it being the last resort to someone's 400whp turbo-related cooling issues.

Heres the link to the engine bay ventilation discussion. If you read thru it you'll find that there was definitely some decrease in bay temps from venting your engine bay.
https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=2352358

As far as it being a fad, yes some took it too far but seriously 5$ in hardware to prop the hood and decrease bay temps and chance of heat soak is better than spending $500+ on an even uglier vented hood which are so common

Dont forget to remove the seal along the upper cowl. You wont need to prop the hood as high with it removed making it very slightly angled. GL

Lol you guys are idiots using washers to 'rake' your hood.

Look into steel spacers... far better idea.

ya know my DVOM has a temp probe that I have never used....once I get the car back on the road I might do a little write up on it.... some before and after temps, hell it'll only take 10 minutes to install the washers and my car already looks like **** from all the salt and ice here in ohio, so what the [freak] do I care

I do that also but honestly i doubt that would make much of a difference just by itself. Your talkin really only a 1/4" gap you would create doing that. Sure it would help some but might as well space it if your fighting heat soak due to high bay temps.

I seem to recall that Real Time Acura did back to back tests and found that the spaced-up hood actually hurt cooling performance.

When we were having cooling issues on the Integra rally car, it did not seem to help any. So any supposed cooling performance is going to be be negligible or perhaps in the wrong direction
