Flash Burn?
I've gotten myself on accident before, doing the old snap my neck to make the helmet flip down and stomp the pedal, only there was no helmet on my head... everything they say about sandpaper eyeballs is true.
This kind of thing just seems unbelievable to me. People just simply don't protect themselves, and it's so foolish. I've NEVER had welders flash, sunburn, or any other thing. Wear the right equipment for God's sake, or your gonna pay later.

Ive acidently pushed the pedal on the tig a few times also the arc mig but ive never gotten flash burn.
I know a budy of mine got it when he was moving his torch over and he was putting the torch to his work then he floored the pedal acidently and got 120 amps in his face.
But people never take care of them selves.
I weld with long sleeve shirt, bean cap on my head and i wear a mask for the fumes and my helmet and gloves when i can on the left.

I can only imagine how bad that burn hurts!
I burn the back of my neck all the time at work (pulsed mig alum in confined space= guranteed burn) and had arc flash 2 times in my 10 yrs of working in the industry. Arc flash is horrible, you cant do anything other than freezing your eye ball to make it feel better.
However, with the low amperage and low reflection using my tig, I have never been burt at all.

I did pretty much the same thing, the shield would darken but not all the way, well needless to say i work up at 4am screaming. Its like your eye is rolling in your head and someone is taking a needle and going to town on your eye.

the mask would still darken but as you were welding it would get bright. i had no more batteries so i kept turning the mask off and on and that seemed to be working, until the next day

yea you dont notice it hurting right away...I woke up hours later during the night and the light creeping under the door was enough to make me want to cry. I sat in the emergency room for what seemed like an eternity before they put some eyedrops in and cured me in like 2 sec.
In my case it was just stupidity. When I was 17 I was welding a few tiny tabs on something for a friend when someone decided it would be funny to drop a nice loogey on my helmet to mess with me. Out of spite I welded the next few tabs without the helmet, didnt even hurt at the time

i have had sun burns on my arms, and 2 times i have gotten a burn on my hand where i had a hole in my glove, but that was just one of those things that can happen.
it isn't hard to just where protective clothing, but when it is 90* and humidity off the charts it sucks to cover up, and sweat all day...
