Default First welds ever. any pointers?

Last night i just started using the welder at my buddies shop. Its a fairly large Hobart MIG welder. we had some scrap SS laying around and had SS wire so we hooked it up and went to town. The ones circled are my welds. What can I do to improve them?

Your off to a great start!

1stt pic looks looks like you need to spread out the puddle to the bottom plate in order to fuse em together well. Looks like you tried to do this but need more penetration b/w both plates rather than just the top plate. Not bad for beginner. Just try to fill in right smack between the 2 plates and then some.

2nd pic: Same peice just upside down?

Try tack welding the 2 peices together FLUSH. Again, need to work on fusing them together more.

Overall opinion: Your friend setup the mig correct? Your doing good man, just need to tack ur work before you weld together i guess.

less wire speed, slower rate of travel, or more heat...try one of the three

Get an auto darkening helmet! J/k.

Maybe slow it down a little, and make a weave pattern between the 2 pieces.
