Re: FINALLY!!! Titanium turbo manifold pics
I love how the coloring of the manifold almost matches the paint.
here's a link to a car show it was in http://stickydiljoe.com/2010/03/24/r...rage/#comments

Re: FINALLY!!! Titanium turbo manifold pics
That's some awsome fabbing and welding, but really - titanium? IMO thats the worst choice for a structural pressure vessel that's going to vibrated to hell & see >1400F EGT's.
You'll love even more what the heat does to the titanium's physical properties WITH IDLE EGT's. There is a very good reason big-budget race teams use 321SS (which ironicly uses a sprinkle of Ti) and Inconel alloys for the hot parts. The owner will certainly not want to burn the bridge he has with the weldor - I forsee many future repairs if this is actually used at the track occationally.

Re: FINALLY!!! Titanium turbo manifold pics
BUT
EGTs dont ususally translate into full temperature of the metal used in the manifold.
i've shot a temp gun at a car that just had WOT EGTs of well above 1400 degrees or whatever (estimated, didnt have an EGT gauge), and only seen 650-750 degrees on the surface.
do i think it will be a problem? yup.
do i hope it wont be for the owner's sake, and the fabbers sake? YUP. sheesh that would suck.
it'll probably be OK, but i'd want to ceramic coat the insides at least... thats scary to think about.

Re: FINALLY!!! Titanium turbo manifold pics
thankfully the owner is well aware of what he bought and why he bought it, and was clearly informed at the purpose of titanium versus 321 and 625....

Inside ceramtic coating would be pretty cool. No pun intended. As somebody else pointed out. EGT's don't translate to material temps.

I know you heard it plenty of times but I know it's also great to hear it again lol.
Splendid work! I admire work like this. You can see all the blood, sweat, and tears that was used in this work of art.
Cheers

Thank you Gentlemen, glad everyone enjoys it.
Here is a little update on the car. So far its been in two different magazines, one is "MC2", and the other is "Performance Auto & Sound" June edition. here's a link to it - http://www.pasmag.com/features/top-r...max?q=mini+max

Just saw this and I am impressed. I'm usually not one who likes pretty over functional, there have to artists in the automotive world as well. Hats off to you guys at Fabworx for having the vision to see this project through.
