Pretty simple to do, but some people might be able to get more advanced, creative, and stylish. The prize, your not a bolt on bitch and can get creative.

I'll be taking pictures of my design later this week. Basicly will be thin sheet metal with a steel bracket holding the box, a 150anl fuse, with 4g gromets in and out. Mounted in the back rear space.

We just finished the Dadfab battery box, it came out better than I could imagine. It's a weld / bolt in system that will probably last longer than the car. It's painted black (the black box) and is strong enough to hold flight data recorder in tact in the event of a crash. I'll post pictures of my dad's work once some other people post theirs.

you and me both. I've been needing a better box the moment I bought one from summit. plastic is crap, and stainless with all those welding colors would look so much better.

The fab work on the mini is pretty insane. I just spent an hour looking at all the pictures. I definitly plan on going back and reading it. Keep up the excellent fab work. For those who didn't pay attention to kb58's sig it's http://www.kimini.com.

Here's the Dadfab battery box, the bottom plate is 1/8" mild steel and welds into the car, it has (4) 3/8" threaded studs welded onto it. The box is made out 16 gauge mild steel and assembles onto the weld-in base. This box meets all of our local tech rules for a relocated battery.

Please forgive me for the noob question but, Why do we relocate our batteries to the back?

And is it safe to have the battery that enclosed in the Dadfab one? I though batteries needed to at least vent? Just wondering for if someday i relocate and build a box just wanting the info.

yep, batteries do need to be vented to the outside, unless you have a gel cell

dude just get a freakin LW battery,
i have a hawker style one, weighs 11lbs, its SOOOoo freakin small,
and its SEALED you need NO battery box or anything to mount it anywhere in the cabin or engine bay, it does not leak and its a tiny thing!

You still need a box, if you mount it in the cabin there is a large list of regulations the box must meet if you plan on drag racing.

The whole point of the box is to prevent the 10-50lb battery from flying around the inside of the car in the event of an accident. Like the post above said, read the regs.

Well here's my contribution. Not really a "battery box" but a battery tray that i relocated to the fender well behind my bumper on my old 88 hatchback. I have the same thing on my DA integra as well. It keeps the weight over the front tires where it's better off, and no safety concerns. Easy access through the opening that cold air intake would occupy. And yes this Napa Lawnmower battery worked awesome for the few months I used it! It would crank for atleast two minutes if needed and never went dead on me.

Batteries are moved to the rear of the car for weight bias. Trying to get more weight to the rear for traction and handling.

There is in rule in the GCR, ALL batteries will be in enclosed box. Small mis-conception about Gel Cells. Thay can leak. They have a different vent system that does not allow any leakage, when it works. I have seen a Optima explode inside a rece car, and it make a pretty good mess. It is rare, but better to be safe than sorry.

yea, you need to have the Box vented to the out side of the car to pass NHRA Spec, Also needs to have tight gromets. and be secured at least 3 spots.

actually, i use cardboard to do many rough templates for stuff. then masonite, then metal.

but paper mache? hehehe.. LOL

I hear that,
but this isn't the rr/autox section,
so I assume street car.

though I always tell ppl not to make assumptions... oh well.

If you make a home made box, what has to be done to make it pass inspection at a track. Does it just have to be made out of metal and vented ??? Also anyone interted in making me one that will pass track inspection ?
