Default cutting elblows..

how are most of you homemade guys cutting butt weld els? i have this

milwaukee 14" cold cut saw with a metal devil blade and it cuts fine when its a long piece but when it comes to short pieces like 3" long, the vise doesnt grip it and i fcuked up the stock blade because it was tight but as soon as those teeth dug in, it went flying.

i dont have money for a band saw and i know i cant cut it without the vise so help me out plz?

lol, i know i put elBLOWS... mistake but yes, cutting elbows BLOWS DONKEY *****!

I use a POS craftsman verticle bandsaw which gets my hands dangerously close to the blade. I need to make some kind of fixture for cutting weld els.

your going to want to get a horizontal band saw and cut them in there , I just tack weld them to a longer pipe so you can clamp it in the vise, and just go slow and let the saw do the work.

For the few times that I had to cut elbows. I take the elbow and a straight chunk of tube and give it a few good solid tacks around. Use the straight chunk for the vise to grip onto and cut. Afterward, just grind the tacks down a little bit or use a cutoff wheel and break it the elbow off.

a portaband works fine for me. They have cheap ones at Harbor Freight that seem to do ok. I think I paid $45 for one, with a 3yr replacement guarantee.

I use a big, old vertical bandsaw, then a run on the belt sander. I can't imagine tacking a pipe to each bend I cut. Seems like I could be taking a sip of coffee or something instead.

well I guess if I was going to cut some weld ells I would do it on the vertical bandsaw. I would use 2 pairs of vise grips one on each side and go to it. If you don't have a nice doall vertical then a new style milwaukee will work pretty well. The newest style have a nice backstop that is more like a small table then the previous versions. When working outside of the shop I have used the milwaukee with the handle clamped in a vise several times as a small portable vertical and it works well. you have to wire tie the trigger so get a little foot switch to turn it on and off. Its going to be the cheapest safest and fastest way to cut weld ells. Use visegrips so your fingers stay where they belong. BuY GOOD BLADES 18tpi work the best.

Not telling you what or how to do it so use this info at your own risk.
